Kairos Outside is a 2 1/2-day Christian Weekend designed to demonstrate God's grace and love through Christian support for women who have been impacted by incarcerated.
As one Kairos Outside Guest aptly stated, "I always assume people are going to judge me when they find out I had someone in prison; but it was humbling to find out these women not only liked me, but they loved me. Interested in this ministry? Here are the next steps...
Get Involved
We need your help. There are many opportunities for you to serve in this ministry. All we ask is that you have a willing heart and a spirit of obedience and you can play a crucial role in God's ministry of Changing Hearts, Transforming Lives and Impacting the World. Here's some basic information to help you "get involved."
Kairos Outside Serving the Desert Area In a safe environment with loving people, women interact with other women who are in similar situations and learn to form small support groups to give them strength for the challenges they face.
Spouses, parents and relatives of the incarcerated often "do time" right along with their loved ones. It is important for them to know that they are not alone, and that there is a Christian community that cares. Any female family member, at least 20 years old, whose life has been impacted by the incarceration of a loved one, or a woman who was unable to attend Kairos Inside while in prison, is eligible to attend Kairos Outside.
The Weekend is based on a series of talks by Kairos volunteers sharing their life stories. Guests hear the talks in small family groups. The program is interspersed with music, prayer, and fun activities.
The Weekend is Christian in nature, although no religious affiliation is necessary to be a Guest.
After the Weekend, the women journey together through SWAP (Share, Witness, Account & Pray) and Reunion meetings, where they support and encourage each other as they deal with the impact of incarceration on themselves and their families.
Be a Team Member
Kairos volunteers come from all walks and strata of life. They all share a desire to follow Christ's admonition of Matthew 25:36, "I was in prison and you visited me." If you feel God's call to minister to the incarcerated's female family members, friends or relatives, you may be called as a part of a Kairos Outside team. Be a Support Volunteer
Not all Kairos Outside members serve just in the Weekend Retreat. Each Kairos retreat weekend has opportunities for outside support, such as baking cookies, writing letters of support, or preparing meals. Get your church's Sunday school classes to color placemats for mealtimes during the retreat.
